December in Korea is not only a time for bitter coldness as winter settles, but also a time for a young democracy to exercise its rights to vote. This year marks a fierce competition between Park Geun-Hye, conservative, Saenuri Party and Moon Jae-in, […]
Incheon is mainly known as the port of arrival for most people. However just outside the fences of the airport are beautiful small islands and a view of the East China Sea.
Seouls architecture ranges from the ultra modern to centuries old. It’s a city forged through hardship from constant invaders, famines, wars, and until a few decades ago, dictators. It’s a city that’s gone from a place where no one really […]
With the successful landing of NASA’s Mars Science Lab or Curiosity, I wanted to share the photos that I was able to capture of the rovers final assembly at a clean room in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Jeonju is a small city located about 3 hours away from Seoul via intercity bus. Costing only about ?25,000 Korean Won or $22 USD round trip, it makes for an easy day trip away from the hustle of the big city. Jeonju is known for not only it’s traditional Hanok houses, shown below, but also for it’s food. It’s known throughout Korea for it’s Bimbimbap which thanks to my Korean friend I was able to try. In addition, Jeonju also has it’s own version of makgeolli that’s been boiled down and sweetened with what tasted like hints of cinnamon. Makgeolli is a Korean rice wine that’s made by fermenting rice, wheat, and water together. The tourist information center has maps in Korean, English, Japanese, and a few other languages and they speak basic english as well. If you know Korean, then they have a free tour that’s organized around 2pm, however it’s all in Korean. The city is quite charming with Hanok style buildings everywhere. Like everywhere else in Korea, there are ton’s of connivence stores and cafes to stock up on drinks and snacks while you’re exploring the city. Also do be aware that some of the cabs only accept money which had me and my friend scraping for change as we went back to the intercity bus terminal.
Lake Toba or Danau Toba in Bhasa Indonesian is perhaps one of the most beautiful places I’ve been in my life. Located in the center of Sumatra is the worlds largest volcanic lake and home to a super volcano. It’s four […]
Needing a break from the usual grind in Seoul, I decided to book a vacation in South East Asia which also coincided with Chinese New Year. Unfortunately as I was to find out later, the main celebrations happen after the actual holiday […]
